Ghana's U17 national team, the Black Starlets, have intensified their final preparations in Yamoussoukro ahead of their WAFU Zone B Championship opening match against Togo on Saturday.
The team conducted their second training session on Thursday under the guidance of head coach Dr. Prosper Narteh Ogum, focusing on tactical refinement and team cohesion.
The session saw players working at high intensity as they sharpened set-piece routines, defensive organization, and attacking patterns. With no injury concerns reported, Coach Ogum has a full squad available for selection as Ghana begins its campaign in Group A, which includes hosts Ivory Coast and Niger alongside Togo.
Dr. Ogum expressed satisfaction with his team's readiness following the training session: "The boys have shown great commitment and focus. We are working on the final details, and I believe by Saturday we will be ready to give Ghanaians a performance to be proud of."
The tournament, running from September 20 to October 3, serves as the qualifying pathway to the 2025 U17 Africa Cup of Nations. Ghana, with its rich history in youth footballâincluding two FIFA U17 World Cup titlesâwill be aiming to secure qualification while challenging for the regional championship.
The Black Starlets will face Togo at the Charles Konan Banny Stadium in their opening fixture before taking on Ivory Coast on September 23 and concluding their group stage against Niger on September 26. The team's preparations reflect Ghana's determination to return to the pinnacle of African youth football and secure a place in next year's continental championship.
