Ghana coach Otto Addo has cautioned against complacency despite their chances of qualifying for the 2026 World Cup.
The Black Stars, after a disappointing draw against Chad last week, returned to winning ways with a hard-fought 1-0 win against Mali in the Matchday 8 games in the qualifiers on Monday night at the Accra Sports Stadium, with Alexander Djiku scoring the only goal of the game in the second half.
The senior national team now sit at the top of Group I with 19 points with two games to end the qualifiers.
With the Black Stars needing just a win to secure their qualification for the Mundial scheduled to be hosted next year, the 48-year-old cautioned Ghanaians to temper their expectations, warning against complacency.
“Everybody was talking before the Chad game that we had already won. It’s dangerous. We are not at the World Cup yet," Addo said after the game.
"We have a lot of work to do, and every opponent must be respected,” he added.
The Black Stars will next face the Central African Republic away, before concluding their qualifying campaign with a home match against Comoros in October in the final round of the qualifiers.
