Cagliari are exploring the possibility of reuniting with Ghanaian midfielder Ibrahim Sulemana after making initial enquiries to his club, Atalanta.
The Sardinian side, however, face stiff competition from newly promoted Parma, who have also expressed interest.
The 22-year-old joined Atalanta last summer following an impressive spell with Cagliari, but opportunities in Bergamo were limited. Despite making just 10 appearances in all competitions last season, Sulemana made his mark by scoring twice, including a memorable goal against AS Roma that secured Atalanta’s place in the UEFA Champions League. His strong finish to the campaign earned him the club’s Player of the Month award for May.
Although he enjoyed a promising pre-season, even finding the net in a friendly, reports suggest manager Ivan Juric has informed Atalanta that the Ghanaian does not feature in his long-term plans. He was left out of the squad in their recent fixture against Pisa.
Cagliari and Parma are now closely monitoring developments as they weigh moves for the versatile midfielder. Sulemana was also part of the Black Stars squad at the Unity Cup, featuring against Trinidad and Tobago.
