Alfred Duncan played a starring role as Venezia kicked off their Serie B campaign with a 2-1 win over Bari at Stadio Pier Luigi Penzo.
The Ghanaian midfielder started the match and lasted 85 minutes, delighting the home fans with his energy and composure.
Venezia struck first in the 9th minute through Bjarki Bjarkason, giving the hosts an early lead. Bari responded in the 26th minute when Mehdi Dorval’s strike, confirmed after a VAR review, leveled the score. The match looked poised to stay balanced until Duncan stepped up in the 43rd minute. The midfielder unleashed a left-footed shot from outside the box, placing it perfectly into the top right corner with the help of Joël Schingtienne’s assist.
Venezia dominated possession, holding 59% of the ball, and managed to create more clear opportunities, showing they were the more threatening side overall.
With this opening win, Venezia will now turn their attention to Juve Stabia on August 30, hoping Duncan can continue his impressive form.
