President of the Ghana Football Association (GFA), Kurt Okraku, paid a courtesy call on the Director-General of the Criminal Investigations Department (CID) of the Ghana Police Service, COP Lydia Yaako Donkor, at the Police Headquarters in Accra on Monday.
The engagement formed part of the FA’s stakeholder consultations ahead of the 2025/26 football season and served as a platform to strengthen collaboration between the Association and law enforcement on issues of security and integrity in the game.
Congratulating COP Donkor on her appointment, President Simeon-Okraku praised her previous contributions to Ghana football as Head of Safety and Security at the GFA, while pledging the Association’s full support. He underscored the importance of police involvement in tackling match-fixing, hooliganism, cybercrime and other threats to the sport, stressing the need for deeper cooperation.
“We are here to strengthen the relationship between the Football Association and the Ghana Police Service,” he noted. “We will continue to rely on the Police to help us fight the canker of match manipulation and rid our game of such acts.”
The GFA President also proposed a partnership with the Police Service to redevelop the Tesano Depot Park into a standard football facility.
COP Donkor, in her response, welcomed the delegation and commended the GFA for recognising the crucial role of law enforcement in football administration. She assured the Association of the CID’s support in safeguarding the game, describing football as a “national treasure” that unites and inspires the nation.
The visit was part of a wider series of engagements by the GFA with key stakeholders ahead of the new season, which officially kicks off with the Premier League on September 12, 2025.
President Okraku was accompanied by Executive Council members Samuel Aboabire, Gideon Fosu and Eugene Nobel Noel, as well as senior staff including Neil Armstrong-Mortagbe, Henry Asante Twum, Maxwell Kemeh and Patrick Akoto.
