Former Black Stars assistant coach, George Boateng, has expressed delight after being named the new head coach of Belgium club RAEC Mons.
The 49-year-old agreed to join the third-tier side after signing a three-year deal on August 18, 2025.
He returns to management after leaving Coventry City in November 2024 and has been tasked with the job of leading RAEC Mons to the second tier of Belgium football.
"I am delighted to announce that I have agreed to become the Head Coach of RAEC Mons in Belgium. It’s a great honour to take on this role at such a historic club with passionate supporters. I look forward to working with the players, staff and management to build a strong team and achieve success together. Allez les Dragons!" wrote Boateng on Instagram.
The Middleborough legend holds a UEFA Pro License and arrives with a huge coaching portfolio, who has seen him spend time in both club and international football.
He served as assistant coach of Ghana during the 2022 FIFA World Cup in Qatar and the 2023 Africa Cup of Nations in Ivory Coast.
However after a disappointing campaign, the Ghana Football Association dissolved the entire senior national team technical staff, paving the way for Boateng’s next move.
The former Dutch international retired from professional football in 2013 after notable spells in England with Coventry City, Aston Villa, Middlesbrough, Hull City, and Nottingham Forest.
His coaching résumé also includes a head coach role with Malaysian side Kelantan and a stint as Aston Villa U-23 head coach.
