Sarpsborg 08 sporting director Hampus Andersson says new signing Michael Opoku is ready to make an instant impact after joining from Danish Superliga side FC Lyngby.
The 20-year-old winger, a Danish youth international of Ghanaian descent, has penned a contract with the Norwegian Eliteserien club running until June 2028.
His arrival is expected to add pace, creativity, and direct attacking threat as Sarpsborg aim for a strong second half to the 2025/26 campaign.
“Michael is primarily intended for the left-wing role but can also play other positions. When we decided to sell Sondre Ãrjasæter, Michael Opoku was top of our list as his replacement. He is in good shape after a strong preseason with Lyngby and ready to contribute from day one,” Andersson said.
Opoku scored four goals in 10 starts for Lyngby last season, showcasing his dribbling ability, one-on-one strength, and composure in front of goal.
Known for his intelligent movement and link-up play, he is seen as a player who can make an immediate difference while also developing further in Norway’s top division.
The move aligns with Sarpsborg’s long-term recruitment strategy of targeting young talents capable of growth within a competitive environment.
Though he has represented Denmark at youth level, Opoku remains eligible to play for Ghana on the senior international stage.
