Ghana midfielder Abu Francis says he “can’t wait to start this new challenge” after finalising his move to French Ligue 1 side Toulouse FC.
The 24-year-old joins from Cercle Brugge in a deal worth around â¬2.5 million and becomes the French club’s third signing of the summer following a routine medical on Wednesday.
Speaking to Toulouse’s official website, the Right to Dream Academy graduate expressed his delight at joining the 2023 Coupe de France winners.
“I’m very happy to be here. I can’t wait to start this new challenge and join this wonderful family,” he said. “I’m also looking forward to discovering the Pink City and meeting all the club’s incredible supporters.”
Francis, who began his professional career with Danish outfit FC Nordsjaelland, made over 60 league appearances for Cercle Brugge since his arrival in 2022. He attracted interest from clubs in Italy, Turkey and England, but says he was convinced Toulouse was the best place to continue his development.
“I feel this is the right step for me. The club has ambition, plays good football and the supporters are very passionate. I want to give everything for Toulouse and help the team in every competition.”
Sporting director Viktor Bezhani believes the Ghanaian’s all-action, box-to-box qualities are perfect for Ligue 1, describing him as “aggressive defensively while being able to dictate the tempo offensively”.
Capped five times by Ghana, Francis now hopes consistent performances in France will boost his chances of becoming a regular in the Black Stars squad.
