Former Arsenal midfielder Thomas Partey has been granted conditional bail after being formally charged with five counts of rape and one count of sexual assault.
The Ghana international appeared before Westminster Magistrates’ Court on Tuesday, August 5. The charges relate to alleged incidents that occurred between 2021 and 2022 during his time at the London club.
Partey was officially charged just four days after his departure from Arsenal, having left the Premier League side at the end of his contract.
The charges stem from a police investigation that began in February 2022, following an initial report of rape.
Partey's legal representative, Jenny Wiltshire, stated that the midfielder “denies all the charges against him” and looks forward to “the opportunity to finally clear his name.”
The case has now been transferred to the Central Criminal Court (commonly known as the Old Bailey), where Partey is scheduled to appear on September 2.
Meanwhile, the 31-year-old has reached an agreement to join Spanish side Villarreal following his Arsenal exit.
