Frank Acheampong scored his eighth goal of the Chinese Super League season, but it wasn’t enough to save Henan FC from a 2-1 defeat to Qingdao West Coast on Saturday afternoon.
The Ghanaian winger showed sharp movement in the box and smashed home a through pass from Abudulam in the 23rd minute to bring Henan level. His energetic display kept the visitors hopeful, but the numbers game quickly shifted.
Henan’s Iago Maidana was sent off just four minutes before Acheampong's goal, leaving them a man down for over 70 minutes. Qingdao took full advantage, with Davidson opening the scoring in the 7th minute and Nelson da Luz restoring the lead in the 32nd.
Despite a red card to Qingdao’s He Longhai in the 63rd minute, Henan couldn’t find an equalizer. Acheampong fought hard but lost 14 duels, the most in the match, underlining how isolated he often was.
Henan will now regroup ahead of their next game against Shenzhen Peng City on August 8. Qingdao now lead the head-to-head with two wins in four meetings.
