Dutch-born forward of Ghanaian descent Ernest Poku put up a top performance for AZ Alkmaar on Thursday evening, helping the team to secure a big 5-0 win in their Europa Conference League playoff match against Ilves.
The teenager started for the Dutch outfit on the matchday as they hosted the opponent from Finland.
Before today’s contest, AZ Alkmaar had lost 4-3 to Ilves in the first-leg meeting of the qualification playoff.
In need of a performance to turn things around, Ernest Poku showed up big time for the Eredivisie club, scoring and providing an assist to inspire the team to a 5-0 win.
First, the winger set up Troy Parrott for AZ Alkmaar’s opening goal in the 22nd minute before getting on the scoresheet himself in the 36th minute to finish off a great team move.
Additional goals from Troy Parrott, Denso Kasius, and Mees de Wit sealed the big victory for the hosts.
The win means Ernest Poku and his AZ Alkmaar teammates are through to the next round of the Europa Conference League qualification playoff courtesy of their 8-4 aggregate win against Ilves.
