Kelvin Yeboah made a dream start to his Leagues Cup journey, scoring a stunning free-kick as Minnesota United rolled to a 4-1 win over Queretaro FC at Allianz Field.
The Italian-Ghanaian striker needed just 20 minutes to light up the game, curling a right-footed strike into the bottom corner to double Minnesota’s lead after Bongokuhle Hlongwane opened the scoring in the 11th minute.
Yeboah’s sharp movement and energy kept Queretaro’s backline on edge until he was subbed off in the 63rd minute to loud applause from the home fans in attendance. The visitors briefly clawed one back through Jhojan Julio, but goals from Anthony Markanich and Tani Oluwaseyi sealed the win for the home side.
Queretaro’s night got worse when Ãngel Zapata saw red in the 87th minute after a second booking.
It was a commanding performance from Minnesota, who looked in control throughout and will now gear up for a bigger test against CF América on August 3rd.
