WAFCON 2024: Nigeria humiliate Zambia with a dominant 5-0 win in one-sided quarter-final clash
The Super Falcons of Nigeria stormed into the semi-finals of the 2024 CAF Womens Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON) on Friday with a dominant 5-0 victory against Zambias Copper Queens. The record champions locked horns with their quarter-final opponents today in a highly anticipated contest.In a game many predicted would be a close contest, the Zambians failed to come to the party and suffered humiliation.The Super Falcons proved once again that they are a heavyweight when it comes to womens football on the continent.On the matchday, the Nigerians had a strong start to the game and scored after just two minutes into the first half when Osinachi Ohale equalised after she was set up by Esther Okoronkwo.Later in the game, goals from Esther Okoronkwo and the tournaments top scorer, Chinwendu Ihezu, put Nigeria in cruise control before the break.With the Super Falcons continuing to dominate the game in the second half, the team scored two additional goals to send the Copper Queens home.Oluwatosin Demehin and Folashade Ijamilusi netted the goals in the 68th and 90th minutes, respectively.Having reached the semi-finals, Nigeria will face the winner of the quarter-final showdown between South Africa and Senegal.That match is scheduled to be played on Saturday, July 18.
