"I believe in these girls"- Mercy Tagoe confident Black Queens can win WAFCON
Former Black Queens coach, Mercy Quarcoo Tagoe has expressed confidence in the current team despite their slow start to the 2024 Women's Africa Cup of Nations.The Black Queens have picked only a point in two matches and are on the verge of suffering elimination at the tournament ongoing in Morocco.The three-time WAFCON finalist face Tanzania in their final Group C game and needs a win to advance to the quarter-final.Tagoe worked with some of the girls in the team during her time as coach of the national women's team and believes they have what it takes to go far.Womens football has really come of age and I thank God that FIFA is really pushing hard. CAF is also pushing very hard. All the MAs (Member Associations) are also pushing very hard. Every Ghanaian wants to see Black Queens winning the Cup. Im a Ghanaian. I want us to win the Cup. And I believe in these girls that we have assembled, she told CAF Online.The team lost their opening game against South Africa before drawing 1-1 with Mali.Ghana returned to the WAFCON after missing the last two editions and will be hoping to reclaim their spot in women's African football.
