Black Queens coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren explains reason behind South Africa defeat
Black Queens head coach Kim Lars Bjorkegren has pointed to a brief lapse in concentration as the key reason behind Ghanas 2-0 loss to South Africa in their opening match at the 2024 Womens Africa Cup of Nations (WAFCON).Ghana held their own early on but were undone by two quick first-half goals from Linda Motlhalo and Jermaine Seoposenwe. Despite showing more attacking intent in the second half, the Black Queens were unlucky not to score, with Alice Kusi and Evelyn Badu both hitting the woodwork.Speaking after the game, Coach Bjorkegren admitted:We were the better team for the first 30 minutes until the goal came. They scored from the penalty, it came from nowhere. After that, we gave them the opportunity to score another one and that is a problem. We lost a little bit of concentration. The Swedish tactician, however, praised the teams overall performance despite the defeat.Otherwise, I think the performance was pretty good. We knew we were playing the previous champions perhaps the toughest game we could have.Ghana will face Mali next on July 11 before wrapping up Group C against Tanzania.
