Right to Dream founder Tom Vernon calls for proactive recruitment of youthful talents
Tom Vernon, founder of the renowned Right to Dream Academy in Ghana, is urging Ghanaian authorities to establish a national talent identification strategy.This move aims to develop athletes across various sports and capitalise on the country's wealth of young talent.Ghana's recent decline in major competitions, including the Black Stars' failure to qualify for the Africa Cup of Nations (AFCON) for the first time in 21 years, has highlighted the need for a structured system to nurture young talent.Vernon emphasised the importance of both national and global talent identification, citing the loss of young Ghanaian athletes to other countries.We lose a lot of our sons and daughters to other countries, so we need to start with the identification of our youth and beyond, be much more proactive in recruiting the most talented Ghanaians in the diaspora, he stated.With 25 years of experience leading the Right to Dream Academy, Vernon has expanded the institution into a global powerhouse with academies and professional clubs in Denmark, Egypt, and the United States.His vision for Ghana's sports development is clear: to transition from a natural resource-based economy to a talent-based economy.
