Two Ghanaian players set for maiden FIFA Club World CupÂ
Two Ghanaians will be in action at the inaugural 32-team FIFA Club World Cup as Edmund Baidoo and Samuel Obeng are part of 147 African players in the competition. Baidoo, 19, plays for Austrian giants Red Bull Salzburg.The young midfielder joined Salzburg in 2024 from Norwegian side Sogndal Fotball after impressing a few months after joining the club from Ghanaian lower-tier side AsanSka FC.Baidoo has quickly become a mainstay in the Salzburg team since making his debut a few months ago.His inclusion in Salzburgs squad for the tournament is a testament to his meteoric rise and growing influence in the team.Obeng, 27, plays for Moroccan powerhouse Wydad Athletic Club. The experienced forward signed for Wydad in January 2024 after stints in Spain with Girona FC, SD Huesca and Real Oviedo and Portugal with Casa Pia.Obeng has international experience, having played for Ghanas U-23 team, the Black Meteors, at the 2019 U-23 Africa Cup of Nations in Egypt. He will be vital for Wydads campaign in the competition.Other African countries with player representation include Nigeria, Morocco, South Africa, Egypt, and Tunisia, among others.Its going to be a showpiece of the best talent in the world with African players eager to make their mark.
