Cirencester Town U16s girls’ football team have arrived in Ghana on a charity mission.
Captain of the side Libby Messenger alongside 25 students from Cirencester Deer Park School landed in the West African nation on Wednesday where they will be involved in volunteerism.
They will teach in two schools and take part in some community building and offer football coaching.
The group have been very busy fundraising for the trip with a static bicycle ride, quiz and auction night as well as a curry and band night.
Libby has organised to take a donated football kit from Cirencester Town FC along with some footballs, goalkeeper’s gloves and training cones – which she has paid for herself – for the Ghanaian children.
She is looking forward to showing the children her football skills and coaching them as well as hopefully taking part in a football match out there.
Cirencester Town office Scott Griffin said: "Libby has been very enterprising in gathering gifts for her trip to Ghana and we are delighted to help out." Libby has captained the local side for two seasons and when she returns to action she will lead out her team in the league cup semi-final.
