President of the Ghana Sports Writers Association (SWAG) Kwabena Yeboah says he was not wonder-struck by Kwesi Appiah’s reappointment as Black Stars coach.
The 56-year-old gaffer was reappointed as the Black Stars coach on Tuesday following the departure of Israeli trainer Avram Grant after his contract with the Ghana FA expired after the end of the just ended Africa Nations Cup in Gabon.
In an interview with Accra-based Class FM, he said, “I am not surprised by the decision, but anytime an expatriate coach comes and does not perform, then we turn to an indigenous coach."
"I always make the point that I do not understand why African countries will go for expatriate coaches.
" I personally feel insulted as an African that year after year expatriate coaches should handle teams in Africa. I felt very embarrassed that during the last Africa Cup of Nations in Gabon we had as many as 14 expatriate coaches in charge of African teams.”
Appiah was in charge of the team from 2012 to 2014 where he led Ghana to the 2013 Nations Cup and the 2014 World Cup.
