Former Okwawu and Eleven Wise head coach Nana Agyemang has urged newly appointed Black Stars head coach Kwesi Appiah to develop a more complete approach as he enters his second stint as Stars’ Head Coach.
The 56 year old Appiah signed a 2 year deal to replace former coach Avram Grant who resigned after Ghana’s disappointing showing at the AFCON.
According to Nana Agyemang, the local black stars as well as the junior teams have been neglected over the years, and he has admonished Kwesi Appiah to focus more on the development of these players to provide more options for the Black Stars team.
“I would hope that this time around he would have a proper comprehensive program with regards to what happens with the local Black Stars. Because from what I can see we’ve forgotten about them as well as the Black Satellites and Black Starlets, and there doesn’t seem to be any succession plan at all. They go to competitions, they don’t win the cup and they are disregarded.
Also I think there should be a serious look at the local potential we have here. I don’t think this should be another case of gathering the benchwarmers from Europe and tasking them to go and win the AFCON.
I think his approach must be much more holistic than it was before, he has got to be more inclusive and has to look at the potential in our local league,” he said.
Kwesi Appiah’s first game in charge of the Black Stars will be a friendly against Mexico in June.
