Accra, June 28, GNA - President Nana Addo Dankwa-Akuffo Addo on Friday joined the Military High Command to pay their last respects to Major General Francis Vib- Sanziri with full military honours in Accra.
A burial service was held for the former Head of Mission and Force Commander of the United Nations Disengagement Observer Force (UNDOF), at the St Catholic Church in Burma Camp after which, he was subsequently interred at the Military Cemetery.
Most Reverend Joseph Afrifa Agyekum, preaching on the theme: “the death of a good man”, said death is a transition of life and was a way of baptising into a new life.
He said Major General Vib-Sanziri had been baptised into the eternity of life and was welcomed in heaven.
Most Rev Afrifa said he had known the late officer for 15 years and had admired him because he was “efficient and gentle in his work.”
"We should reconsider our days of the maker before our final day on earth, the value of life is not measured by a person’s position or properties but it is measured by what you will inspire. The man lived to inspire the generation, family, children and friends and he was truly God fearing,” he said.
Commissioner of Police Mrs Beatrice Zakpaa Vib-Sanziri, wife of the late Major General, in a tribute described her husband as very caring.
“Francis, we planned our retirement together and were both looking forward to the period when we will put our uniforms down and really have time for ourselves after several years of hard work for God and country but I am now faced with a lonely retirement without you,’” she said
She said she took consolation in the fact that her husband died in the Lord and that he was peacefully resting in His bosom.
Lieutenant Colonel David Abrakwa, reading a tribute on behalf of the Ghana Armed Forces, said the late Major General Vib-Sanziri proved his worth and capabilities as competent and reliable command material.
Other dignitaries present at the event were Dr Mahamudu Bawumia, Vice President of Ghana; former presidents John Dramani Mahama and John Jerry John Rawlings; and the Military High Command.
