
Accra, June 28, GNA- Dr Gilbert Buckle, the Executive Director, African Institute of Health Quality, Safety and Accreditation (AfIHQSA), has urged participants of Medical Laboratory training course to impart the knowledge acquired to enhance healthcare delivery.
He urged the participants to be agents of change and share their experiences with others for an improved health care delivery.
Dr Buckle said this at the closing ceremony of a five-day training course for Medical Laboratory Quality Manager training course in Accra.
The programme was organized by the AFIHQSA in collaboration with Quality and Accreditation Institute (QIA), India.
Dr Buckle commended participants for their resilience and commitment towards the successful completion of the programme.
He said the course was to broaden the knowledge of practitioners to appreciate their role and ability to advance patients safety through medical diagnostics.
Dr Buckle said AfIHQSA was established to bridge the knowledge and competency gap in the area of healthcare quality and safety in the health sector.
“The Institute trains frontline healthcare workers in the principles and application of quality and safety in health systems. It is our hope that we will serve as a vehicle to bring lasting improvement in health systems across the continuum of care in the world”, he added.
Dr Bhupendra Kumar Rana, the Chief Executive Officer, QIA, India, urged the participants to make a positive impact in their organisations, putting into practice the skills acquired at the programme.
He said the programme has added more knowledge to their existing ideas and urged them to continue to build their capacities to improve laboratory services in the country.
Participants were taken through topics including international standard for medical laboratory accreditation ISO 15189, fundamentals of healthcare quality and safety, basic quality management systems as per ISO 15189, documents and records required by ISO 15189 and risk management plan and auditing principles.
The participants were from the Bank of Ghana clinic, Ho Teaching Hospital, the Trust Hospital, St Patrick’s Hospital, Offinso Ashanti and 37 Military Hospital.
They were presented with a certificate.
