Apowa(WR), June 28, GNA - Women have been charged to stand up and take the mantle of leadership by training and instilling good values in their children, in order to create a better society where peace, love, fear of God and integrity reign.
"We are making hypocrisy out of our children... Because most parents preach virtues and practice vice. Meanwhile children learn from actions greater than words...this is time for our actions and deeds to march to avoid the growing spate of indiscipline in the society".
Reverend Mrs. Elizabeth Akuoko, an astute preacher and Teacher of the Gospel who spoke on "Women, Faith and Transformational Leadership" urged women to take up the leadership role and influence the current generation positively.
The Faith to Action Women Conference was organised by the Akrofi-Christaller Institute of Theology, Mission and Culture's Centre for Christian-Muslim Engagement in Africa under the theme: "Women of Faith Nurturing a Virtuous Society".
The annual gathering of women from Christian, Muslim and Traditional Leadership with the aim to inspire and empower them to transform their religious faiths into action for the peace and development of the Society.
Mrs. Akuoko urged women to teach their children acceptable social behaviours backed by prayers so that they would not depart from the truth.
"It is unfortunate that parents are willing to buy examination questions for their children to learn, bribe their way to the top and even introduce them to lies by telling them to tell guests and debtors that they are not around ... we need a reawaken indeed”.
Reverend Timothy Annoh, Chairperson of the Western Presbytery of the Presbyterian Church of Ghana, said virtuous women should endeavour to do the right thing, "with such values, the woman of faith is in the right position to nurture her children, including men with compassion, sympathy and care...most men don't have that, and that is why they are at the forefront of every conflict".
He noted that religious and interfaith dialogue therefore becomes a form of religious peace making tool to mediate in conflict situation and serve as communication link between opposing sides.
Reverend Annoh said stabilizing the society and ensuring lasting peace would require women of faith to be mindful of God, "It is my prayer that this engagement will bring out ideas, and all virtues that will help build our society and help to avoid unnecessary conflict".
