Accra, April 2, GNA – Ghana on Tuesday joined the global community to observe the annual World Autism Awareness Day.
Autism, also called Autism Spectrum Disorder is a developmental disorder that affects the ability to communicate or interact. It is sometimes characterised by restricted or repetitive patterns of thought and behaviour.
Joined by the international community, hundreds of thousands of landmarks, buildings, homes and communities around the world will light blue in recognition of people living with the disease.
Autism-friendly events and educational activities will take place throughout the month of April, 2019, to increase understanding and acceptance of people living with Autism, and foster worldwide support for such people.
In Ghana, the Alexis Mirinda Foundation and other civil-society organisations that are working for the cause of Autism patients will hold activities to highlight awareness of the disease.
