Teacher honoured at Independence Day Parade

Agona Swedru (C/R) March 6, GNA - Mr Sananika Libarbore, a former French Teacher of Agona Abodom Catholic Basic School in the Agona West Municipality in the Central Region has been honoured for the excellent results of his students during the 2016/2017 BECE Examination.

He was presented with a citation at a parade to mark Ghana's 62nd Independence Anniversary at the Swedru Sports Stadium.

Mr Libarbore presented 35 students for 2016/2017 BECE Examinations. Out of the 35 students presented for the examinations, 24 obtained grade one, eight obtained grade two, and three obtained grade three in the French Language.

This has been the best French results ever recorded in the history of the Municipality.

The citation presented to him by Ms. Elizabeth Helen Essel, the Agona West Municipal Director of Education read: "Your hard work, dedication to duty and love for the noble profession made it possible for you to remarkably impact on the academic performances of your students during the Basic School Certificate Examination (B.E.C.E) for 2016/2017 academic year, your students had the best French results ever recorded in the history of the Municipality".

It further reads:" This outstanding performance has indeed put the school on the educational map of the Directorate. You have proved yourself to be an effective, efficient and intelligent French Teacher, and your tireless effort has helped arouse the interest in the learning of the French language in the school".

Mr Libarbore who is a now a Lecturer at the University of Education, Winneba (Department of French of Education), speaking in an interview with the Ghana News Agency expressed gratitude to the Agona West Municipal Education Directorate for the recognition.

He advised teachers to be dedicated to the work and never stop learning to broaden their knowledge to impact unto the school children.

More than 500 students from five Senior High Schools, 19 Junior High Schools, 25 Primary Schools and Swedru Salvation Army School for the Deaf, took part in  the Independence Day Parade.

This year's celebration was held on the theme: "Celebrating Peace and Unity".

Mrs Justina Marigold Assan, the Municipal Chief Executive in an address, urged Ghanaians to emulate the sense of patriotism exhibited by the country’s forebears who in unity, fought to attain Independence for the nation.

She observed that sustained peaceful coexistence in Ghana is the panacea for rapid socio-economic development.

She therefore, urged Ghanaians to work hard at promoting peace rather than division because peace is the fulcrum upon which economic growth revolves.

The MCE pledged the commitment of Government and the Municipal Assembly to continuously invest in education in order to provide quality training for the children.

Ms Essel on her part advised students to be disciplined and serious with their studies so that they could become responsible citizens in the future.

She urged the students to eschew negative behaviours that could jeopardize their future.

Awards and certificates were presented to schools that excelled in the parade.
