Tema, Nov. 14, GNA - Residents of Tema on Wednesday, largely ignored the 2018 Town Hall meeting organized by the Ministry of Information in conjunction with the Ministry of Local Government and Rural Development.
The programme, which was held at the Assembly hall of the Our Lady of Mercy (OLAM) SHS, started an hour late with most of the chairs empty so students of the school were therefore asked to fill the auditorium.
The Town Hall Meeting was initiated to enable local assemblies and government officials sensitize residents on public policies as well as provide the platform for feedback to the leaders.
Mr Kofi Brako, Member for Parliament for Tema Central, blamed Assembly Members for failing to inform their residents to attend the meeting saying, "I want to find out why the Assembly members failed to fill the place with residents as expected".
Mr Branko, touching on other issues, questioned why the TMA had failed in providing streets lights in the Metropolis after giving several promises to residents.
He charged the TMA to always fulfil its promises and inform residents why they could not provide the needed amenities such as security, good sanitation and lighting.
He also appealed to the Assembly to provide the needed equipment for the operations of the Tema General Hospital's morgue hopefully by the end of 2019.
Mr Daniel Nii Kwatei Titus-Glover, Member of Parliament for Tema East and Deputy Minister for Transport, said TMA had no excuse not to provide the needs of residents as according to him, its geographical area was now small after the ceding off of Adenta, Kpone-Katamanso, Ashaiman and Tema West from it.
Mr Titus-Glover questioned the Assembly why security was inadequate at the various markets leading to break-in and thefts even though traders paid tolls to the Assembly.
He said it was unacceptable for the Metropolis to have serious security, health, sanitation, and educational issues.
Mr Felix Mensah Nii Anang-La, Tema Metropolitan Chief Executive, welcoming participants, said his outfit was fencing all public basic schools in the Metropolis, constructing new school buildings, road works and had improved sanitation in the area.
Presentations were made on government's policies including the One District, One Factory, Planting for food and jobs, Nation builders, Free SHS and the Double track system as well as 50 per cent subsidy on fertilizers and seeds among others.
The few who attended raised issues on bad roads, poor work on the school walling project, filth on the beaches, markets, drug addicts havens, among others.
