Academic City College awards scholarship to NSMQ finalist

Accra, July 13, GNA - The Academic City College in Accra has awarded a full presidential scholarship to Abdul Hameed O. Tade, a student of the West Africa Senior High School (WASS), who was a finalist at the 2018 National Science and Maths Quiz.

The institution offered him a scholarship to pursue Science and Engineering.

The Academic City Presidential Scholarship Award is worth a total of US$ 40,000, which covers tuition, accommodation, meals, a laptop, monthly allowance, and transportation to and from the student’s hometown (twice a year).

“We interviewed finalists from the National Science & Maths Quiz (NSMQ) for the Academic City Presidential Scholarship, and Abdul’s genuine passion and excitement for innovation and engineering made him outshine his peers,” said Ms. Sunitha Jenarius, Director of Strategy, Academic City.

While in high school, Abdul was motivated to work hard to achieve success because he sought to relieve some of the pressure on his father who worked as a commercial driver, and his mother who is a trader, by earning a merit-based scholarship to pursue his college education.

A diligent student who maintained strong grades throughout high school, Abdul has represented WASS twice at the prestigious NSMQ last year when he was in Form 2 and now in Form 3.

The Award was presented to Abdul by the President of the Academic City, Dr. Fred McBagonluri, and Ms. Sunitha Jenarius.

“Abdul, driven by his love for physics and robotics, shows incredible promise,” said Ms. Sunitha Jenarius.

“It is our honour to have him onboard Academic City’s entering class of 2018,” she added.
