Accra, July 12, GNA - Mr. Evans Oppong - Public Relations Officer (PRO) of Aduana Stars has said, the departure of coach Yussif Abubakar from the club, was mutual, as the two parties agreed to part ways without any hard feelings.
He said contrary to reports in the media that, the veteran coach was sacked, the two parties agreed to terminate the contract on mutual basis.
Mr Oppong who spoke in an interview with GNA Sports, criticized the media for labeling the departure of the coach as "sacked" or "fired" insisting that, even though the termination was initiated by the club, it was mutually agreed on.
“I must admit that coach’s contract was mutually terminated. I have heard some reports that, coach had been sacked or fired but that was not the case.
“We sat down with him and we proposed that we want the contract to be terminated and he agreed to our proposal," he added.
Mr Oppong said the 2017 Sports Writers Association of Ghana (SWAG) Coach of the Year was not sacked for poor performance, insisting he was the most successful coach in the history of the club.
"Since our club came to the top flight, he has been able to win almost every trophy, excluding the MTN FA Cup. In his few years with us, he won the Super Cup, the Ghana Premier League and the G6 tournament,” he added.
In addition to that, coach Abubakar is the first and only coach to have sent the Dormaa based club to the knockout stage (money zone) of the Confederation of African Football (CAF) competition.
Mr. Oppong noted that, the decision of the club was necessitated by the club's wish to change the mode and scope of the club to move towards a different direction.
"The club was gaining international recognition and better performance by its players in the world transfer market and international competitions," he added.
