Accra, March 26, GNA – An Accra Circuit Court on Monday granted Kwadwo Nyamekye, a labourer bail in the sum of GH¢10,000.00 with one surety for allegedly threatening to butcher another labourer with a cutlass.
Nyamekye will reappear on Wednesday, March 28.
Nyamekye, 21, had pleaded guilty with explanation to threat of harm but a plea of not guilty was entered for him after his explanation.
He told the Court, presided over by Mr Emmanuel Essandoh that he did not go to Jacob Akelibaara’s house to attack him.
He said, “I went there to demand for money to enable me go to the hospital for treatment for injuries I sustained during previous fight”.
According to the Prosecution led by Chief Inspector Francis Tassan, the accused armed with a sharp cutlass, demanded for GH¢15.00 to cater for the lacerations he sustained during a previous fight elsewhere or else he would butcher the complainant.
The prosecution said fearing for his life, Akelibaara gave the accused GH¢5.00 and asked him to come back later for the rest.
The accused agreed but warned that if he was not given the balance of GHC10.00 as promised by the complainant, he would burn all the belongings of Akelibaara including his motorbike.
Police Chief Inspector Tassan told the Court that Akelibaara and Nyamekye resided in wooden structures at South Industrial Area.
The prosecution said on March 17, at about 0830 hours, a witness in the case was going to his room when he heard unusual shouts close to his room.
He became alarmed and rushed there to see what was happening.
Nyamekye was figthing a female witness in the case.
The prosecution said Akelibaara separated the fight and this did not go down well with Nyamekye and it resulted in a fight but they were separated by onlookers only for Nyamekye to come back at 1830 hours with threats to butcher him.
The prosecution said the accused in his caution statement denied the offence.
