Berlin, Aug. 29, (GNA/dpa) - Liverpool have agreed a deal to sign midfielder Naby Keita from Bundesliga side RB Leipzig in 2018, the Premier League club confirmed Tuesday.
According to reports on Monday, the Premier League club will pay Keita's 48 million-pound (62-million-dollar) release clause, plus an undisclosed premium, to secure his transfer on July 1.
“I am delighted that an agreement has been reached which will allow me to join Liverpool Football Club next summer, when I will become part of a project that excites me greatly,” Keita told the Liverpool homepage.
Liverpool's current transfer record is 35 million pounds, paid to Newcastle to sign striker Andy Carroll in January 2011.
Leipzig have refused to consider selling the 22-year-old Guinean international Keita this season as they prepare to make their debut in the Champions League.
“My commitment to RBL remains absolute for the remainder of my time at the club. I have given my all every time I have worn the shirt – that will be the case until the final whistle, in my final appearance," Keita added.
“Having my future resolved means I can now focus on helping RBL achieve great things this season. Until I join my new club, next summer, I will remain an interested supporter from a distance.”
