Youth of Upper West Region donates to hospital

Wa, July 2, GNA – The youth of the Upper West Region under the auspices of the National Youth Authority (NYA) has donated assorted items to the Wa Regional Hospital as part of activities to commemorate the Republic Day.

Mr Richard E. Obeng, the Deputy Chief Executive Officer (CEO) of the NYA who handed over the items which included; boxes of soap to the hospital during a visit to the facility said it was appropriate for the Authority to join hands with the youth of the Region to support the hospital to improve its services to the people.

“The Head Office of the National Youth Authority has found it a worthy course to come and join young people in this region to do what they have been known for, leading the chart in terms of youth engagements and support for society”, he said.

Mr Eric Dakurah, the Administrator of the Hospital who received the items on behalf of the hospital commended the youth as well as the NYA for their benevolent support to the facility and said it would help the hospital improve its service delivery.

He also admonished the young people to be mindful of their health and to report any abnormality to the health facilities.

He urged the youth to be wary of the mode of transmission as well as the symptoms of Hepatitis saying “Hepatitis is now a great killer in our part of the world”.

In a related development, Mr Obeng also joined the Fahima Foundations during its clean-up exercises in the region and urged the youth to inculcate the habit of good sanitation practices to help reduce the high cases of sanitation related ailments.

Madam Rafique Fahima, the Founder and Chief Executive Officer of Fahima Foundation, expressed regret that the Upper West Region which was once adjudged the cleanest region in Ghana had lost its status due to the indifference attitude of the people of the region towards sanitation issues.

She said the bad sanitation practices had led to the rampant cases of sanitation related diseases such as; malaria and cholera among others and urged the people, especially, the youth to embrace good sanitation practices to help improve the health of the people.

Madam Rafique who is a student of the Seikwa Nursing Training College and the Upper West Regional Sanitation Ambassador of the college based “Clean Drop” sanitation project indicated that the clean-up exercise was aimed at ensuring a clean environment for the betterment of the region and the country at large.
