Smiles on Faces Foundation supports La General Hospital

Accra, July 3, GNA - Smile on Faces Foundation, a Christian non-governmental organisation (NGO), on Monday presented a Fire fly phototherapy equipment, valued at 4,000 dollars to the La General Hospital in Accra, for the treatment of neo-natal jaundices.

The Hospital was the first among the 10 identified by the NGO nationwide to provide the facility by the close of 2018.

Dr Lawrence Tetteh, an International Evangelist and Patron to the organisation, who presented the equipment to the medical authorities, asked Christians to reach out to people through such social interventions.

He explained that providing 4, 000 dollars for such a worthy course instead of on frivolous things was laudable.

Dr Ebenezer Oduro- Mensah, the Medical Superintendent of the Hospital, said 40 per cent of admissions at the health facility last year was due to neo-natal jaundices, which posed a heavy burden to the authorities.

He said the equipment would speed up the recovery of patients, which was one of the major morbidity in babies, hence the need for corporate bodies to assist the NGO to fast track its distribution to other regions.

Mrs Vivian Akyereh Ankrah, the Chief Executive Officer of the NGO, said it was formed in 2011 to focus on sharing Christ through social interventions mainly on health and education.

She said on October 13, 2016 the NGO launched a neo-natal campaign to throw light on the disease, which a lot of people did not pay attention to, “but is increasingly harming children”.

She said the organisation had among other interventions supported widows, single mothers and the needy with clothing and food hampers at Danfa in the Greater Accra Region and organised an entrepreneurial training programme for women at Community 11 in Tema.
