Two persons have appeared before an Accra circuit court for allegedly robbing a Yango driver of his mobile phone and GH¢1,500.
Eric Adjetey Adjei, a 26-year-old unemployed, and Godwin Abbey, 21, fisherman, have been charged with conspiracy to commit crime, to wit robbery, and robbery.
They pleaded not guilty and were granted bail in the sum of GH¢200,000 with two sureties, one of whom is to justify with landed property.
The original title deeds are to be deposited at the court’s registry.
The court ordered the prosecution to file and serve disclosures and witness statements on the accused persons.
Presenting the facts, the prosecution said the complainant, Samuel Coffie, is a Yango driver in charge of a Daihatsu vehicle with registration number GT 2714-25.
The accused persons were residents of Teshie.
On August 11, 2025, at about 0500 hours, the accused persons, while on a stealing expedition, booked the complainant to pick them from Teshie Mobile to the LEKMA Hospital area.
The complainant obliged.
On reaching a section of the road at Teshie, the accused persons asked to alight before reaching the agreed destination.
The complainant parked, and Adjei, who sat in the front passenger seat, opened the door and placed his right leg on the ground.
Suddenly, Adjei allegedly snatched the complainant’s Samsung phone and GH¢1,500 from his hand.
The complainant held onto Adjei through the window, and a struggle ensued.
In the process, the complainant’s vehicle veered off the road and landed in a gutter.
Adjei then fled with the phone, and together with Abbey, they escaped.
An alarm was raised, and members of the community arrested the accused persons, who were nearly lynched.
The police arrived in time to rescue them and sent them to the hospital for treatment. They were later discharged.
The complainant, who sustained bruises on his hand and face, was issued with a medical form to seek treatment.
The prosecution said both accused persons admitted the offence in their caution statements.
