

The Ashanti Regional Police Command has begun a manhunt to arrest suspects believed to be preparing to undertake armed robbery activity in the Bosomtwe district on Sunday evening.
The suspects are said to have abandoned their vehicle and took to their heels after seeing the police patrol team from the Kuntenase, approaching the spot they had packed on the Aputuogya-Bekwai road on Sunday April 17, 2025.
A statement signed by DSP Godwin Ahianyo, Ashanti Regional Police Public Relations Officer, and issued in Kumasi, said the police after searching the abandoned, vehicle discovered firearms and ammunitions in it.
It said the police patrol team from Kuntenase on their usual road patrols in the area, saw a white Toyota Sienta, with registration number NR 289-24, suspiciously parked near a bushy area along the road side.
The statement said two male adults, who were spotted standing beside the vehicle, and allegedly smoking a substance suspected to be a narcotic drug, upon noticing the approaching police vehicle, fled into a nearby bush and escaped despite a pursuit by the officers.
It said a search conducted on the abandoned vehicle led to the discovery of weapons and items believed to indicate preparation to commit a crime.
The items retrieved included one (1) AK-47 assault rifle (Serial No. 29546), one (1) locally manufactured firearm, two (2) AK-47 magazines each loaded with 30 rounds of ammunition, and four (4) packets of AK-47 ammunition, each containing 25 rounds.
The rest were seven (7) loose rounds of ammunition, one pair of Wellington boots, one Huawei smartphone, cowrie shells, one pair of sandals, a Ghana Card and Temporary Driver’s License (name withheld for investigative purposes).
The police said the vehicle had since been impounded at the Kuntanase Police Station, and all recovered items had been retained as exhibits to support ongoing investigations.
The statement said the Ashanti Regional Police Command remained resolute in its commitment to preventing violent crime and ensuring the safety and security of all residents.?
It called on members of the public to volunteer information that could assist in the arrest of the suspects.
