Three individuals have appeared before an Accra Circuit Court for allegedly possessing counterfeit currencies and conspiring to commit related offences.
The accused, Kelvin Prince Kwabena Boateng, Selina Anirinka, and Musah Ayuba, have been charged with conspiracy and unlawful possession of counterfeit notes.
Boateng faces an additional charge of escaping lawful custody, while Ayuba is separately charged with possession of counterfeit currency.
They pleaded guilty with explanation, but the court entered a plea of not guilty after hearing their submissions.
All three have been remanded into police custody to reappear on August 21, 2025.
Prosecutors have been directed to file disclosures by August 18, 2025.
Chief Inspector Daniel Danku, leading the prosecution, said the complainant is an Immigration Officer stationed at the Ghana Immigration Service headquarters.
He stated that on July 31, 2025, at about 2200 hours, intelligence was received that the accused were trading counterfeit money at Mallam Atta.
Police officers proceeded to the scene and arrested the suspects with various currencies in different denominations, including 20 packs of $100 bills, two packs of 10,000 CFA, three packs of 5,000 CFA, six packs of €100, three packs of GH¢200, two packs of GH¢100, one pack of GH¢50, 30 pieces of GH¢20, one pack of GH¢10, and five packs of GH¢5.
According to the prosecution, Selina handed over the counterfeit currencies to the police.
Investigations revealed that Boateng concealed the fake notes in a black polythene bag and gave them to Selina for distribution through her drinking bar.
Ayuba was found with nine pieces of $100 notes during a search.
Boateng later named one Adamu as his supplier.
However, on August 1, 2025, while being escorted to Lapaz to assist in Adamu’s arrest, Boateng escaped custody but was recaptured 300 metres away.
Investigations are ongoing
