Media personality Amanda Jissih is alleging that many cross-dressers, especially among content creators, are involved in LGBT activities.
Speaking on UTV’s United Showbiz on Saturday, she asserted that cross-dressing often serves as a cover for their sexual orientation.
“Most of these cross-dressers are actually involved in LGBT practices. They are just using the cross-dressing to cover up,” she stated, emphasizing that while some appear to be cross-dressing solely for entertainment or content creation, they are engaging in LGBT behaviours behind the scenes.
Amanda further differentiated between cross-dressers and effeminate gay men, known in Ghana as “Kojo Besia.”
According to her, effeminate men are more open about their attraction to men, while cross-dressers often use their attire to hide their true sexuality. “At least with the ‘Kojo Besia,’ you would know they are sexually attracted to men. But for the cross-dressers, most of them are not bold enough to be open about their sexuality, so they are covering the practice with the cross-dressing,” she added.
Her comments come in the wake of concerns raised by the National Commission for Culture (NCC) over the rising trend of cross-dressing among male social media influencers. This issue was highlighted during a recent “All-Black Party” in Kumasi, where several male influencers attended in women’s clothing. Dr. Richardson Commey Fio, the Deputy Executive Director of the NCC, expressed concern over the trend, calling it “disturbing” and “unacceptable” in a city known for its rich cultural heritage.
