Some women groups at the event
Hundreds of women last Friday benefited from a digital and financial literacy training programme by MTN Ghana as part of activities marking the International Women’s Day (IWD).
Held at the Rawlings Park in Accra, the event brought together women groups including the Ghana National Tailors and Dressmakers Association, Ghana Hairdressers and Beauticians Association, and traders among others.
Facilitators drawn from various departments of the company took the women through topics like investment, savings, insurance, pension, among others, to enhance their knowledge on the opportunities available to them in the digital space.
Senior Manager, Data Devices Home, MTN Ghana, Gloria Frimpong said the event was aimed at improving the digital skills of the women who find themselves working in some of the female dominated sectors of the country.
According to her, knowledge gained by these women would not only equip them to to utilise the opportunities that abound in the digital space but would go a long way to improve their businesses while taking advantage of technologies such as MTN Apps, Ayoba, WhatsApp Business, TikTok, Instagram, Facebook among others to reach out to their clients.
Acting Chief Human Resource Officer at MTN Ghana, Abdallah Ibrahim, said the company which is actively involved in conversations on diversity, and equity is committed to improving the livelihoods of people.
He said, “MTN is very particular on all inclusivity and we think that on the occasion of the 2024 International Women’s Day, we want to show our sisters, women what to do in a digital world and take advantage of some of the financial solutions that they have.
We want to engage them a lot more on some of the offerings that we have for example the SME Plus under Enterprise solutions and some of the key products under mobile money that can help advance their businesses.
These are some of the examples that we want to show to our seamstress who are not aware so that they can take advantage and play a big role in the financial and digital world that we are in today” he added
He said the event was also replicated in the Ashanti, Northern, Eastern, and Western regions and would be periodically held to engage other groups in future.
