Citi FM and Channel One TV’s team has been going around the various schools to present medals to the top ten contestants of the 2024 Literacy Challenge.
Ama Boatemaa Asamoah and Oliver Kwakye Amoah, students from Jireh International School in Ashaiman received their medals on Friday, August 2, 2024, for their exceptional performances.
Apiorkor Seyiram Ashong-Abbey, the Head of Programmes Production at Channel One TV and Citi FM, addressed the students at Christ The King International School emphasising the tremendous efforts of the contestants in reaching this far.
“It was a very packed and difficult exam and yet Felicia managed to get within that bracket, 96 to 84% so today we are here and we are going to give her a medal. This medal is for the top ten. Just to show our appreciation and just to show how proud we are of her and to let you be inspired by Felicia’s journey.”
The Headmistress of the Christ The King International School, Portia Felice Mensah, said they are diligently preparing their contestant for the Challenge, expressing hope that they win the trophy.
“The past two, three years, we halted a bit and we have bounced back. I would say it is teamwork. All the teachers have been helping and we have also been doing our best in supervising her. As for the trophy, we are bringing it back home this year.”
Cecil Cosmas-Gonzalves, a student at Christ The King International School, voiced his concern about missing this year’s challenge due to a missed application deadline.
Despite his disappointment, Cecil remains hopeful about participating in the Challenge next year.
“I am very happy for her. Next year I will apply too so I can get to this far,” he said.
The top ten contestants will compete in a quiz competition on Saturday, August 17, 2024, with the winner walking away with GH¢10,000, the bragging rights and a trophy.
The Literacy Challenge 2024 is powered by Citi FM, supported by Channel One TV and is sponsored by Ghana National Gas Company, Alife Soap, Fortune Spread for Bread from Wilma Africa Limited, Webie Biscuits by M4 Foods and Prospectus Ghana Limited.
