Dr. Mahamadu Bawumia, the flagbearer of the New Patriotic Party (NPP), has criticised the flagbearer of the National Democratic Congress (NDC) John Dramani Mahama, describing his administration as an ‘akonfem’ era.
Addressing party supporters at the Ofie Mega Walk in Akropong on Saturday, August 3, Dr Bawumia emphasised that Ghana is entering a digital age, not an ‘akonfem’ age.
Dr. Bawumia outlined his plans to transform the country, including introducing digitalisation at the customs office to prevent corruption and streamline passport applications.
He highlighted the benefits of digitalisation, citing the example of passport applications, which will become a seamless process with digital technology.
Dr. Bawumia also jabbed Mahama, stating that he [Mahama] will only serve a single term and therefore won’t be accountable to Ghanaians.
In contrast, Bawumia emphasised his commitment to serving two terms, ensuring accountability and continuity.
He urged supporters to vote for him, asserting that Ghana needs a leader with new ideas, integrity, and best practices to develop the nation.
“From the customs office, we’ll introduce the flat rate of duty and digit-ability to prevent corruption at the port for the development of the country. We are bringing more initiatives on board as we launch our manifesto in a few weeks to come. Because of digitalization, passport application is going to be a thing of the past.
“If you have your card, you don’t have to apply and fill out a form for a passport. We have all your details, so you’ll just pay the fee, and then we print your passport for you. This initiative will help the country to move into digitalisation.”
“Ghana is going into the digitalisation age, not the ‘akonfem ‘age. Vote for me so that we can also learn from the Europeans to develop our nation. We are bringing new policies. Do you think their flagbearer can be a president for just four years? He’s also seeking for honeymoon, meaning he won’t do anything.
“However, I want to be president for eight years meaning I’ll come back to make accountability after my first term. He [Mahama] won’t come back to make accountability Ghana needs a new president with new ideas with integrity.”
