Johnnie Walker, the world’s leading Scotch Whisky brand, is making waves in the realm of environmental sustainability.
With a clear vision for a greener future, the brand has embraced eco-friendly practices and invested in green initiatives to significantly reduce its carbon footprint.
In a landmark move, Johnnie Walker teamed up with the Forestry Commission in 2023 to support the government’s greener future agenda. This partnership kicked off with the planting of over 1,000 trees at the Chipa Forest Reserve during the 2023 Green Ghana Day celebrations.
Now in its second year, this collaboration is set to expand into a multi-year tree-planting campaign, further bolstering the government’s environmental goals. The initiative has garnered widespread support, with enthusiastic participation from both management and staff.
In a statement, Yaa Amoah-Owusu, Marketing Manager for Spirits and Ready-to-drinks at Guinness Ghana said, “To date, we have planted over 1,000 trees, marking a significant milestone in our journey towards sustainability and environmental stewardship.”
Sustainability has become a pivotal issue in recent years, shaping global conversations and influencing industries worldwide. In the spirits and alcohol sector, the urgency to address climate change and promote environmental sustainability has never been greater.
Guinness Ghana has taken the lead in this area and is actively taking pragmatic and innovative measures to support green initiatives and reduce their environmental impact.
In 2023, Johnnie Walker launched the ‘Stepping Out of The Box’ campaign, a key component of Guinness Ghana’s 10-year ESG action plan aimed at achieving sustainability by design.
This ambitious initiative will see the phasing out of over 100 million cardboard packaging units globally, accounting for 50% of all Scotch cardboard individual bottle cartons.
This bold step underscores Johnnie Walker’s unwavering commitment to sustainability and its role in building a circular economy in Ghana. By eliminating over 7,000 tonnes of carbon from Diageo’s supply chain, the initiative is set to make a substantial impact.
Johnnie Walker’s dedication to environmental sustainability is not just a corporate responsibility; it’s social contract and a promise to future generations.
By stepping into a greener future, one tree at a time, we are paving the way for a more sustainable and environmentally conscious world.
