The Minister for Education and Member of Parliament for Bosomtwe Constituency, Dr. Yaw Osei Adutwum, has announced that a number of Senior High schools across the country have either received furniture or are in the process of taking custody of such facilities.
According to him, over 200 schools have been earmarked to benefit from the gesture.
This initiative comes in response to concerns raised by the Conference of Heads of Assisted Secondary Schools (CHASS) regarding financial constraints and inadequate furniture in senior high schools nationwide.
Rev. Father Stephen Owusu Sekyere, the President of CHASS, stressed the urgency of addressing these issues before the return of third-year and first-year students on January 3rd, 2024.
Addressing these concerns on the Citi Breakfast Show on Citi FM, Dr. Adutwum disclosed that his ministry has commenced the distribution of furniture and funds to several senior high schools during the weekend.
He highlighted the successful delivery to specific schools, such as Okuapeman Senior High School and ASSEL College, among others.
“I wish you could put the Headmaster of Okuapeman Senior High School, ASSEL college on the line. They have all received furniture over the weekend. The list they brought to me, about 200 schools are receiving furniture and it is ongoing. They look at the capacity and they send the furniture. We can send you the list of the schools that have received furniture, and they are happy.”
Addressing the issue of funds, the minister underscored that funds are currently being disbursed to various schools.
“You see, we have different components of funds. The funds for the school are mainly the perishable, and it has been going. This week, more funds are going”.
