In an effort to make the vulnerable in Sekondi feel part of the Christmas season, the NDC Parliamentary Candidate for the Sekondi Constituency, Blay Nyameke Armah, has so far distributed 5-kilogram bags of rice to a total of 5,000 aged persons in Sekondi, worth over GH¢500,000.
Giving the rationale during the surprise distribution of the items to the homes of the beneficiaries, Lawyer Blay said that it is always good to give back to society when you are blessed.
He said the support for the aged in society has been going on for the past three years and will continue anytime the need arises.
“The aged are the vulnerable who need attention from the well-to-do in society. Somebody needs to care for them, and I feel very privileged to be there for them,” he said.
“It is not that I have so much, but I always feel that the burden is laid on me by God to share with the aged what he has blessed me with during Christmas and Easter festivities…there has been little effort to put smiles on the old faces, hence the beginning of this effort to make the elderly happy,” he added.
Mr. Blay indicated that providing the needed care and support for the elderly in society is the responsibility of all, and such a move would enable them to have a prolonged life. In the situation where the aged in society are neglected and abandoned is very worrying and needs to be avoided.
He called on philanthropists and corporate entities to support the aged in the communities to put smiles on their faces and reduce the economic hardship on them.
“This activity is also to release some stress on the families of the aged and the people of Sekondi in these challenging times caused by Akufo-Addo-Bawumia’s government.”
Mr. Blay pledged his commitment to continue to support the aged with whatever God will bless him with.
The beneficiaries, who were excited by the kind gesture, could not hide their joy when they received the gifts and therefore thanked him for coming to their aid in the festive season to make them happy.
One of the beneficiaries expressed excitement, adding that things would have been difficult this Christmas if Mr. Blay had not come to their aid.
“For the past three years, he has cared for us, and we are very appreciative and so happy that at least somebody like Lawyer Blay is there for us…As we smile today, you will also smile a year today,” the beneficiary assured the NDC Parliamentary hopeful.
Mr. Blay Nyameke Armah would be facing off with the incumbent Lawyer Andrew Agyapa Mercer of the NPP for the Sekondi Parliamentary seat come 2024.
