Concerned with the issue of waste worldwide, and more specifically in the region, Rana Motors decided to do something a little different this holiday season.
The reputable Ghanaian automotive giant commissioned the “father of recycled art forms” Nana Anoff to build a massive Christmas tree made from recycled automotive materials – just in time to warm hearts for the festive season.
Nanoff’s work includes commissions for Kofi Annan, Michelle and Barak Obama, Will Smith and the Supreme Court of Ghana amongst others.
In order to make this unique tree a reality, a number of old passenger, truck and mining tires of all sizes were used, in addition to used car parts, vehicle headlights and other recycled bits and pieces. Nanoff, using his signature dexterity and creative mastery, intricately put together these waste and discarded materials to create a true work of art.
In total, 52 Goodyear, Dunlop and Triangle tires were used, consisting of massive off-the-road mining tires of about 6.2ft in diameter all the way to 21-inch small passenger vehicle tires.
The structure is adorned with beautiful and aesthetically revived old vehicle parts such as steering racks, wheels, filters, fuel & oil pumps, wiper blades, a radiator grill, suspension units, an exhaust system, electronic gadgets and as many as 20 headlamps from Kia cars.
One of the biggest challenges came from the power source to light up this huge tree.
Using local ingenuity and engineering, a specially designed car battery-powered device ended up being the perfect sustainable solution, making the tree versatile, practical and cost-effective.
With a record height of 32 ft and situated at Rana Motors Headquarters car park, it is an awesome sight to behold at night when the giant tree is illuminated; a magical atmosphere on the Graphic road and a shining example of what can be achieved when people come together to create something beautiful and meaningful.
Rana Motors would like to extend our warmest wishes for this joyous season to our valued customers, patrons and the society at large. May the spirit of the Yuletide fill your hearts with love & happiness.
Stay tuned for more collaborations between Rana Motors and Nanoff.
