N/R: ‘Stop taking the law into your hands’ – Police to Residents

Authorities of the Ghana Police Service have urged the citizenry to to engage the service in times of crisis and desist from taking the law into their own hands.

This comes on the back of recent clashes in Taletuma in the Savanna region that left two persons injured.

A similar attack on the Bagurugu community in Northern Region left 65 homes burnt down and five others injured.

Speaking to Citi News, Savannah Regional Police Commander, DCOP Enock Edutum, expressed concern about how such developments put pressure on limited resources.

“In fact, it is very disturbing. At the moment, the strength of security is very low. Our problem at Lukula, robberies on our highways and other police duties to perform. So when their reprisals come up it affects the police everywhere. It is a big challenge for us, so I will plead with the general public that there are mechanisms for solving problems like these. So when it happens, they should inform the police as a first step. It doesn’t matter whether it is a criminal or civil case/ If it is criminal, we will take up the matter and when it is civil, we will advise them on what to do. When they don’t do these and they take the law in their own hands, it affects all of us.”

REGSEC declares war on criminals in Northern Region

The Northern Regional Security Council (REGSEC) has said that it will employ a more aggressive crime-fighting approach in the face of rising insecurity.

Recent attacks on security personnel, car snatching and other communal disturbances continue to threaten peace and security in the region.

The chairman of REGSEC, Salifu Saeed, explained that the insecurity is a major source of worry.
