
The Koforidua Technical University has held a graduation ceremony for the third batch of students who completed a short course in Phlebotomy.
The students, who were taken through experimental learning techniques, were awarded Phlebotomy Technician Certificates.
Phlebotomy training health care professionals who have been trained to handle and process blood and other specimens.
The programme, which was introduced and implemented through a partnership with the Eastern Regional Hospital, was designed to prepare graduates to work as healthcare technicians specialising in phlebotomy.
Speaking at the graduation ceremony at the Abba Bentil Hall of the university, the acting Vice-Chancellor, Rev. Dr Nicholas Appreh Siaw said the university will continue to strengthen its collaborations with other institutions to ensure sustenance of the programme.

“The university and external specialists have engaged with participants during their training to foster and develop their expertise in areas as diverse as procedural matters and management and we will continue to strengthen our collaborations and partnerships”.
Rev. Dr. Nicholas Appreh added, “the career outlook in the field of phlebotomy is very promising, the field is expanding quickly and job growth is expected to grow considerably over the next decade.”

Dr Anim Boamah, the Medical Superintendent of the Eastern Regional Hospital called on the graduands to exhibit high levels of professionalism in the discharge of their duties.
“We want you to exhibit a high level of professionalism out there, put into practice everything you have learnt in the laboratory and in the classroom. A lot of people have this phobia when it comes to syringes and we do not want you to compound their fears in that regards but the calmness, soft talking and even the smile’s you will out on to welcome them to the laboratory is even a first step in taking away their fears”.
