No one influenced our work on Dagbon road-map to peace – Asantehene

The Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, has refuted suggestions that the Mediation Committee handling the Dagbon chieftaincy dispute may have been subject to government influence.

“The impression that NPP is now here and they are in a hurry to perform the funeral of Naa Mahamadu; No. That is not the issue,” the Asantehene said on Wednesday.

He was speaking as they presented the road-map for the Dagbon peace process to President Nana Akufo-Addo, as the Chairperson of the Committee of Eminent Chiefs.

“Let me put it on record that at no time has any president or political party brought any influence at all on this community. President Kufuor didn’t do that. President Mills didn’t do that. We’ve come to this conclusion based on the customs and traditions of Dagbon, and we want to assure you that we will continue through that till we get a new Yaa Naa.”

The committee resolved that the Abudu Royals should perform the funeral of the late Yaa-Naa, Mahamudu Abdulai, beginning December 14-28, 2018.

This will be followed by the funeral of the late Yaa-Naa Yakubu Andani II from January 4 to 18, 2019.

The two funerals are to be performed in the old Gbewaa Palace in Yendi.

President Akufo-Addo described the road-map as an important milestone in the decades-old search for a permanent solution to the Dagbon problem.

The President also congratulated the three Eminent Chiefs, Asantehene, Otumfuo Osei Tutu II, Nayiri, Naa Bohugu Abdulai Mahami Sheriga, and Yagbonwura, Tuntumba Boresa Sulemana Jakpa, for their commitment to the Dagbon people.

The Andanis were represented by HE. Vo-Naa Alhaji M. B Bawah, Warvi-Naa Andani Mahama, Lamashegu Naa, Alhaji Ziblim Abdulai, Zangbaling Regent, Yakubu Mahama, Tibung Regent, Abdulai Abukari, Gbermanda, Mahama Yakubu and Saha-Naa Abdul Latif Abubakari.

The Abudus were represented by the Regent of Regent of Tolon, Retired Major Sulemana Abubakari, Nantong, Saaka Sulemana, Diare Regent, Abubakari Abdulai, Mba Dugu, Iddrisu Iddi, Bo-Naa Alhassan Bukari, Kunkon-Lana Abdulai Yakubu, Banvim-Lana Mahama Abdulai and Korli Regent, Mahama Mahama.
