The Ministry of Food and Agriculture (MoFA) will tomorrow, 5 December 2025, present awards and honours to hardworking farmers and agriculturalists across the country at the 41st National Farmers’ Day Grand Durbar and Awards Ceremony in Ho, Volta Region.
The grand durbar and awards ceremony climax the five-day National Agricultural Fair held from 1 to 4 December in partnership with AgriHouse Foundation.
This year’s celebration, themed:‘Feed Ghana, eat Ghana, secure the future’, will highlight the importance of national food security, agricultural self-sufficiency and sustainable job creation.
The events will underscore the nation’s commitment to adopting agricultural practices that effectively address challenges posed by climate change.
Given the urgency of tackling climate change as a means of safeguarding the future and ensuring food security, the focus on building climate-resilient agriculture is crucial to sustaining Ghana’s agricultural sector.
Sector minister Eric Opoku expressed optimism that this year’s celebration will inspire renewed commitment, unity of purpose and innovation in advancing Ghana’s agricultural transformation.
Categories for the national awards
The awards will honour farmers in categories including the Overall National Best Farmer, 1st Runner-Up National Best Farmer, 2nd Runner-Up National Best Farmer, National Best Livestock Farmer, National Best Female Farmer, National Best Physically Challenged Farmer, Overall National Best Fisher, National Best Marine Fisher, National Best Inland Fisher, National Best Fisher Farmer, National Best Fish Processor and National Best Cocoa Farmer.
Other key categories include National Best Most Promising Young Cocoa Farmer, National Best Most Enterprising Cocoa and Female Farmer, National Best Shea Nut Picker, National Best Crop Farmer and National Best Coffee Farmer.
Since its inception in 1985, National Farmers’ Day has evolved into one of the most important events on the national calendar.
The event is not only a celebration of farmers’ toil and sacrifice but also an expression of gratitude for their indispensable role in driving food security, job creation and economic growth.
The day honours essential contributions of farmers and fishers to national development, providing a platform to recognise hard work, showcase achievements and reward best performers in the agricultural and fishing sectors.
These celebrations highlight the importance of agriculture as a key economic pillar and encourage public appreciation for the people who sustain this nation’s food supply and export markets.
