African Champion Industries (ACI) has made an urgent appeal to the regulatory agencies in the mining sector in the country to bring to an end the blatant refusal of Adamus Resources Ghana Limited and BCM International to comply with the judgment by an Arbitration Tribunal two years ago and that of an Accra High Court in July this year for the payment of royalties totalling in excess of US$17 million.
Adamus Resources and BCM have since 2018 refused to pay royalties to ACI, original owners of Nzema Mine at Teleku Bokazo in the Western Region, regardless of an agreed payment of such royalties entered into between ACI and Adamus Resources.
On June 25, 2025, the Accra High Court presided by Her Ladyship, Jennifer Dadzie, sitting as additional High Court Judge, ruled that the award by the arbitral tribunal as delivered on March 14 2023 be enforced.
Elkin Pianim , Executive Chairman of ACI, said that Adamus/BCM have persistently refused to pay the royalties to ACI since 2017 as a strategy of buying time until the end of the life of the Nzema Mine, thereby rendering any legal judgment on them worthless.
Mr. Pianim further alleged that “ the Government of Ghana is a significant shareholder in the Nzema Mine operated by Adamus Resources Ghana and the continued lack of transparency around its operations does not only adversely impact government revenues, but has the potential to saddle the Mine with significant debts that will cause long term damage to the sustainability of its operations.
ACI encourages proactive interventions by the Ministry of Lands and Natural Resources and the Minerals Commission to promptly resolve this unfortunate state of affairs.”
