A total of 19,413 candidates are taking part in the 2025 West African Senior School Certificate Examination (WASSCE) in the Northern Region.
The figure comprises 9,621 males and 9,792 females writing in 29 designated centres across the region. The examination is being supervised by 29 supervisors, 92 assistant supervisors and 1,080 invigilators to ensure smooth and credible conduct.
Candidates began with project work and practical sessions on 5 August, with the main written papers commencing August 20 and scheduled to end on 19 September 2025.
The Ghana Education Service (GES), in collaboration with the West African Examinations Council (WAEC), the security services and other stakeholders, has put in place measures to safeguard the integrity of the examination.
In a statement signed by the Northern Regional Public Relations Officer of GES, Owusu Frederick, on behalf of Regional Director Alhassan Alidu Jnr, the directorate said efforts had been made to adequately prepare students, with examination guidance provided.
School authorities have also been tasked to educate candidates on examination malpractices, while invigilators have been urged to remain vigilant in curbing irregularities.
“We wish all candidates success in their examinations and encourage them to approach this period with seriousness, discipline and confidence as they prepare for the next phase of their academic and professional journeys,” the statement said.
The directorate further acknowledged the support of parents, teachers, security services and the public in creating a conducive environment for the examinations.
