
The Sam Nartey George, Minister for Communications and Digitalisation, will be honoured with the Digital Leader of the Year award at the prestigious 14th Digital Innovation Awards (DIA), taking place on Thursday, June 27, 2025, at the Labadi Beach Hotel in Accra.
In addition to receiving the night’s highest individual recognition, Sam George will serve as Chief Host and deliver the Keynote Address under the theme: “Towards a Strategic Framework for AI”at this esteemed Pan-African event gathering technology leaders, innovators, policymakers, and industry stakeholders from across the continent.
The Digital Leader of the Year award is presented annually to a public figure who has demonstrated visionary leadership, championed inclusive digital policies, and delivered impactful results in advancing national and continental digital economies.
Since assuming office, George has led a bold and fast-paced transformation agenda for Ghana’s digital future. Notable milestones under his leadership include the launch of the One Million Coders Programme—aimed at training, reskilling, and upskilling a new generation of Ghanaian digital talent—and the successful negotiation of an affordable data bundle initiative with MTN, Telecel, and AT Ghana, offering 6GB for GHS10 during selected public holidays, significantly easing data access for millions of Ghanaians.
“Ghana is rapidly positioning itself as a digital powerhouse on the continent,” Mr George remarked in a recent interview. “And we are committed to ensuring that every Ghanaian, regardless of location, has access to the tools and skills needed to thrive in a digital economy.”
